Overview.

Prospect Sports is revolutionizing the sports gaming industry by integrating blockchain technology, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven insights. Their mission is to prioritize community value by offering immersive, equitable, and transparent gaming experiences.

Founded in 2020, Prospect’s objective is to empower sports enthusiasts to gain insights into the underlying performance and eventual success of athletes. Currently, sports fans have limited options to share in the success of athletes, primarily through the purchase of collectibles such as trading cards, sports memorabilia, and NFTs. However, the value of these collectibles is subjective, volatile, and disconnected from the athlete’s actual performance.

Prospect aims to provide sports fans with the opportunity to access the real-time in-game performance of athletes through its Decentralized Fantasy Sports (DeFS) application. This application utilizes Prospect’s proprietary Proof-of-Performance (PoP) protocol to distribute cryptocurrency rewards based on the athlete’s actual performance. By doing so, Prospect enables sports fans to share in the fundamental value of an athlete, their tangible achievements.

The Prospect team came to me through mutual friendships not knowing my full experience with both the design industry and cryptocurrency spaces. Initially, they were looking for a cleaned up brand identity and a pitch deck to help with their initial funding round. While working together to find out more about the project, we realized that we could help each other with a lot more than just a fresh coat of paint on a pitch deck. But, for the start, that's what we set off to accomplish.

To accomplish this, I broke down the initial notes for their brand and rebuilt everything with the vibe and feel that the Prospect team was after. Without too much direction, the primary look and feel was to emulate the movie "TRON: Legacy" with a futuristic, neon type of color palette. In the end, I think we achieved exactly what we were set out to accomplish.

Everything not all at once.

One of the most advantageous aspects of the Prospect backend system is its unparalleled scalability to any sport. To achieve this, we engaged in strategic planning to determine how a brand can effectively engage with a diverse range of sports and their respective fan bases. We selected a distinct color palette that evokes a futuristic and neon aesthetic. Subsequently, we conceptualized various ways in which these colors could be translated into the different sports. Initially, we encountered some challenges, but one of our most significant hurdles (pun intended) ultimately proved to be a solution. Recognizing the difficulties associated with licensing player assets, official team information, and logos, we decided to adopt a neutral profile for each sport. Once we began incorporating the Prospect brand into each sport’s identity, we recognized that we had made a significant breakthrough. We also decided it was more realistic to roll out each sport individually rather than attempt to push out multiple all at once.

Fantasy players.

To facilitate Prospect’s launch of its first digital and Web3 product, we began by strategizing with the team’s understanding of its target audience. Rather than solely focusing on the ideal customer profile they envisioned, we conducted extensive research to explore the convergence between fantasy sports, live sports, and sports betting, catering to individuals with expertise in trading, financial markets, and Web3/cryptocurrency. Our objective was to clarify the potential drawbacks of targeting a single segment and emphasize the necessity of developing a brand narrative that resonates with both sides of the customer profile.
